[Lithuania issues strong statement on Russia: Country to push EU ban on Russian grain transit]

Vilnius, October 8, 2026 — Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė posted on the social media platform "X":

Lithuania intends to push for an EU-wide prohibition on the transit of Russian grain. Such arrangements are no longer acceptable, despite prior tolerance under the rationale that EU sanctions do not extend to foodstuffs. Baltic states are taking measures to prevent Russian grain from being shipped through their ports to other Baltic Sea region countries.
