Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, June 30th - On June 30th, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement through its official website, stating that due to the restrictions imposed by the European Union on the publications and information dissemination channels of eight Russian organizations, Russia has decided to take restrictive measures against 15 media outlets in EU countries.
The statement said that in February this year, the EU Council approved the 16th round of sanctions against Russia, which included restrictions on the publications and information dissemination channels of eight Russian organizations, such as the Eurasia Daily, RIA Novosti, the Russian Strategic Culture Foundation, and the "Zvezda" editorial and publishing center. In response, Russia has decided to take equivalent measures against 15 EU member state media outlets that are involved in "spreading false information," restricting access to their online resources from within the Russian Federation. The statement did not specifically mention which media outlets were targeted.
The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that Russia has repeatedly warned the EU and relevant member states that it will not remain indifferent to the blocking and unjustified restrictions on Russian media, as well as other repressive actions taken for political motives. The responsibility for this situation lies entirely with the EU and the EU member states that support these decisions regarding Russia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also stated that if the EU lifts the restrictions on Russian publications and information dissemination channels, Russia will reconsider its decision regarding these EU media outlets.
The EU Council approved the 16th round of sanctions against Russia on February 24th, marking the third anniversary of the escalation of the Ukraine crisis, covering multiple fields such as energy, trade, transportation, infrastructure, and finance.
