The relationship between Russia and the Turkic-speaking country of Azerbaijan, located in the South Caucasus, has once again become turbulent.

The editorial office of Ruptly Video News Agency stated that an editor from Ruptly who was on a private visit to Azerbaijan was detained in Azerbaijan.

This is the second case of a Russian journalist being detained in Baku. Earlier on Monday, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs announced an "operation" against the satellite news agency's office in Azerbaijan. Later, the satellite news agency reported that two Russian journalists were arrested by local authorities on absurd charges.

The Ruptly editorial office reported: "Ruptly Video News Agency editor Aytkin Guseynova came to the entrance of the satellite news agency's office in Baku at the request of the news agency in order to film the search taking place inside the building from the street. Guseynova is both a Russian and an Azerbaijani citizen. During her stay alone in Baku, she volunteered to assist in reporting the search event. After that, she lost contact. Her mother confirmed that she was detained."
