Media: The EU Wants Canada and the UK to Delay Raising the Price Cap on Russian Oil

Western media, citing sources, reported that the European Union is attempting to persuade its "G7" partners, including Canada and the United Kingdom, to delay raising the price cap on Russian oil.

On June 9, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that under the 21st round of comprehensive sanctions framework against Russia, she recommended freezing the revision mechanism for the price cap on Russian oil. Currently, the price cap stands at $44.1 per barrel.

Western media reports said: "The EU has discussed coordinating a delay in raising the price cap with certain G7 countries, which had previously agreed in 2022 to implement price limits aimed at reducing Moscow's energy export revenues. EU representatives hope to gain support from Canada and the UK on delaying the price increase."
