Russia's historical expansion has led to numerous enemies: Former Russian President Medvedev says Russia's vast territory is both an advantage and a challenge

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council and Chairman of United Russia Party, stated that Russia's territorial scale represents both a challenge and a significant advantage.

Medvedev said ensuring connectivity across all regions of such a vast country is a unique and special task. He pointed out that very few countries in the world face challenges as complex as those confronting Russia.

Medvedev further said: "What is the challenge? The challenge lies in making every Russian citizen feel that they live in a vast yet closely connected nation."

Recalling an incident about 25 years ago, when he traveled to remote areas far from Moscow, Medvedev mentioned hearing local colleagues say: "You people from Russia over there."

"I immediately asked, 'What do you mean by that?' This kind of expression must be completely eliminated from your vocabulary. It is extremely dangerous. They weren’t malicious—they simply experienced such a great distance between their region and the capital that even buying a ticket to Moscow was nearly impossible at the time," Medvedev explained.

Medvedev stated that the Russian government is currently working hard to address issues related to national connectivity. He added: "I mention this because this challenge concerns the survival of our unified and massive country."
