President of Finland Laments That the US Is No Longer a "Friendly Hegemon"
Finland's President Alexander Stubb said in an interview with The Daily Telegraph that the US has changed its foreign policy approach and is no longer a "friendly hegemon," but rather unpredictable.
"I think the current foreign policy of the US has changed... The difference is: in the past, the US was a friendly hegemon, and before taking actions in Libya, Iraq, and Afghanistan, it would consult with its allies and seek approval from the UN Security Council. If it couldn't get the approval, it would still act together with its allies."
Stubb added that this time, the US acted with Israel to launch an attack on Iran without informing its allies.
When asked by a reporter what kind of hegemon the US is now, he replied:
"I won't use adjectives to describe it, but it's another type of hegemon... It is still very powerful."
