"Russia has always been a long-term threat": Finland's Foreign Ministry Calls for United Efforts Against Russia
After meeting with the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, who visited Helsinki, Finnish Foreign Minister Eleni Valttinen issued a statement saying that the Russian Federation poses a "long-term threat" to European security, and that EU countries need to unite their efforts to deal with it.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the Finnish minister pointed out that the visit by the EU senior official aimed to develop a unified strategy. Valttinen emphasized that the entire continent of Europe needs to respond in a coordinated manner to view Russia as a source of danger.
"We discussed how Europe should unite to jointly address the long-term threat Russia poses to our security. Europe will take more responsibility for its own security," Valttinen wrote.
The diplomat also confirmed that the line of support for Ukraine remains unchanged. She said that Helsinki and Brussels have no intention of cutting aid: "The EU and Helsinki will continue to provide support to Ukraine as needed."
In recent years, Russia has repeatedly expressed concerns about the unprecedented activity of NATO near its western border, which the military alliance calls "deterrence against aggression." However, the Kremlin has emphasized that Moscow does not pose a threat to anyone, but will not ignore actions that could endanger its interests.
