The threshold for tax refund for shopping by overseas travelers will be reduced to RMB 200.

Foreign travelers refer to foreigners and people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who reside in the Chinese mainland for no more than 183 days.

Starting from April 27, foreign travelers can apply for tax refund if they purchase tax-refund goods worth 200 yuan RMB or more on the same day at the same store. The previous threshold was 500 yuan. Most goods are eligible for a 11% tax refund based on the inclusive price, and the refund limit has been raised from the current 10,000 yuan RMB to 20,000 yuan RMB.

The government will also expand the scope of tax-refund stores.
