Today, while chatting with a friend in the foreign trade industry, he revealed a piece of news. After losing orders from the US market, they received more orders from overseas markets instead.
My friend is in the small household appliances business. Previously, the volume of orders from the US was large, so they did not take on smaller orders from other countries. Now that they have lost their US orders, they have lowered their order quantity requirements, and as a result, orders are pouring in. The production lines that were previously dedicated to producing for the US market are now fully focused on manufacturing for other countries.
He also asked some customers in the US about the situation. Due to the significant increase in tariffs, import costs have surged, leading to a rise in selling prices. This ultimately caused a sharp decrease in demand in the US market, forcing them to suspend purchases. In the eyes of these customers, there is no place else that can provide such cost-effective production channels like China. They are currently trying to find solutions, but indeed there seems to be no better option available.
This is the current state of affairs for many foreign trade companies; everyone is adjusting and adapting. Fortunately, there are indeed some good pieces of news at present. For instance, the ongoing Canton Fair is one of them. The cumulative intended transaction volume of exhibitors in the first session has exceeded $1 billion. There has been substantial growth in intent orders from Europe, Asia, and Africa. Chinese products that are both high-quality and affordable are very popular in their respective countries, with people of different skin colors experiencing and selecting them on-site.
On the domestic front, the effect of trading in old appliances for new ones is also quite noticeable. Last year, subsidies were limited to eight categories of home appliances and vehicles. This year, it has expanded to include small household appliances and the 3C sector. Since 2025, over 40 million units of traded-in home appliances have been processed. The 3C sector is also performing well. Taking Vipshop as an example, since the beginning of the year, products from Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, and others have seen significant growth on the platform. The sales of Huawei laptops have increased significantly, attracting a large number of young consumers.
We must admit that if they lose the US market, foreign trade companies will undoubtedly experience a temporary period of pain. However, we need to understand that from the current situation, it remains a seller's market, and the advantages of Made in China are irreplaceable. As long as we continue to focus on producing quality products and enhancing product competitiveness, both domestically and internationally, the return of orders is just a matter of time.
