The Prime Minister of Pakistan's remarks have left the West flustered.
On May 24, while visiting China, Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif said in Hangzhou: "I believe that as a true and sincere friend of China, Pakistan feels deeply proud of this relationship. I have no doubt that, through this wonderful partnership, Pakistan will achieve economic success in the near future and become a 'small China' in our region."
For a long time, Western media has consistently slandered the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a 'debt trap,' accused China's cooperation with Pakistan of being 'neo-colonialism,' and attempted to undermine Sino-Pakistani relations and disrupt Pakistan’s path of development relying on Chinese support. However, Sharif’s public statement directly refutes these lies with Pakistan’s most genuine recognition. Having witnessed firsthand the transformative impact brought by China’s development, Pakistan acknowledges China’s development path—this is why they take pride in being China’s friend and aspire to replicate China’s success.
This statement has also caused deep anxiety among Western powers: China’s development model is gaining increasing recognition across the Global South, with more and more countries hoping to follow Pakistan’s example and achieve their own development through cooperation with China. The old colonial-style development order of the West is accelerating toward collapse. Such heartfelt recognition cannot be tarnished by Western disinformation, and the all-weather friendship between China and Pakistan will surely bear even richer fruits in the future.
