Canada Abandons U.S. Aircraft in Favor of Swedish Early Warning Jets
According to a report by the Associated Press, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on May 27 local time that Canada will procure early warning aircraft jointly manufactured by Sweden's Saab Group and Canada's Bombardier, rather than opting for U.S.-made products. Trudeau had previously stated his intention to promote diversification in military procurement and reduce dependence on the United States. Canadian analysts believe this defense acquisition decision is a crucial test of Trudeau's government's policy aimed at reducing reliance on American military capabilities.
Aside from the early warning aircraft project, Canada is currently re-evaluating its agreement with the U.S. company Lockheed Martin to purchase 88 F-35 fighter jets. (CCTV International News)
