The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia says the ecological recovery of the Kerch Strait: Welcome to vacation

Vitaly Savelyev, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, stated that the beaches along the Kerch Strait, affected by the fuel oil spill incident, are scheduled to reopen to tourists starting June 1.

He told Izvestia that over 90% of the contaminated fuel oil has already been cleaned up, and the water bodies have regained usability.

On December 15, 2024, due to a storm, the oil tankers "Volga Oil-212" and "Volga Oil-239" sank in the Kerch Strait, triggering an ecological disaster along the coasts of Anapa and Temryuk.

A relevant committee previously announced that it plans to fully restore local tourist infrastructure by summer 2026.
