Korean Media: 100 Gold Medals in a Row, Unbeaten for 52 Years! China’s True Dream Team!

On October 1, South Korea’s JoongAng Ilbo published an article highlighting that for an uninterrupted span of 52 years, their nation has never lost a gold medal in this event. China’s diving team achieved a historic milestone at this year’s Games by securing its 100th consecutive gold medal, reaffirming its dominant supremacy at the highest level.

At the men’s 10-meter platform final held on September 30 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre in Japan, Chinese diver Lian Junjie claimed gold with a score of 501.25, edging out Japan’s Tatsuki Tamai (497.20) by 4.05 points. Meanwhile, 15-year-old Chinese rising star Zhao Renjie earned bronze with a score of 427.50.

This gold was not merely a victory—it marked China’s 100th gold medal in diving at the Asian Games. It also represents the nation’s unbroken streak since its first appearance in diving at the 1974 Tehran Asian Games, having won gold in every edition since then. The Olympic Council of Asia formally recognized this achievement as the “100-Gold Streak” at the Asian Games. Over the past 52 years, China has claimed every available gold medal in all diving disciplines at the Asian Games.

China maintained its dominance throughout this competition. The team swept all ten gold medals in diving events—winning every individual and synchronized event across men’s and women’s platforms, springboards, and mixed pairs—denying any other nation a single medal in the sport. Lian Junjie’s victory concluded the Chinese delegation’s campaign in diving, marking the 100th gold medal in the nation’s Asian Games diving history.

However, this accomplishment was far from effortless. Tatsuki Tamai scored 93.60 on his final dive, applying significant pressure to Lian Junjie. The gold race remained undecided until the last round; despite a minor error in his final dive, Lian Junjie secured the top spot based on his accumulated lead from earlier rounds.

Lian Junjie underscored the significance of the record. After the event, he stated, “This gold medal was hard-earned,” adding, “It is the result of generations of athletes building this legacy step by step. This tradition instills a deep sense of mission and responsibility in current competitors.”

In fact, China’s dominance extends beyond just one or two generations. From Gao Min to Tian Liang, Guo Jingjing, Chen Ruolin, and Quan Hongchan, the country has consistently produced world-class athletes across eras.

This success is not confined to Asia. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, China made history by winning all eight diving golds for the first time in its Olympic history. Furthermore, at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, China added nine more golds, further solidifying its position as the world’s leading diving nation.
