According to the WeChat official account "China Optics Valley," on October 28, the intelligent exhibition hall of the HarmonyOS Ecosystem (Wuhan) Innovation Center showcased the "Kuafu" robot, the first domestically developed robot equipped with the open-source HarmonyOS system, which amazed many visitors and attracted their interaction. "Kuafu" is based on the open-source HarmonyOS, breaking the foreign technology monopoly and accelerating the construction of a fully self-controlled and controllable robot ecosystem.

On October 28, the first human-like robot in the country equipped with the HarmonyOS system is being tested.

Du Jinbiao, General Manager of HarmonyOS Ecosystem Services (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and Director of the HarmonyOS Ecosystem Innovation Center, introduced: "In the near future, in an environment equipped with HarmonyOS devices, you just need to say 'It's dark, please turn off the lights,' and it will automatically adjust the indoor lighting; or say 'This place needs cleaning,' and it will arrange for the robot vacuum cleaner to work."

It is expected to open up a trillion-yuan industry space.

HarmonyOS is a domestically developed smart operating system that allows various devices to seamlessly collaborate like默契 partners. Its application scenarios are rich, focusing on smoothness and security, while integrating AI technology to enhance intelligence, providing users with convenient and efficient digital experiences.

In the Xinghan laboratory, staff simulate user operations through a six-axis robotic arm for human-computer interaction testing.

Since its launch in 2019, the number of ecological devices worldwide equipped with the HarmonyOS has exceeded 1 billion, making it the fastest-growing operating system globally. Over 1,300 devices have passed OpenHarmony compatibility certification, and more than 30,000 applications and meta-services have been listed on the HarmonyOS app market. Market institutions estimate that the HarmonyOS ecosystem is expected to open up a trillion-yuan industrial space.

HarmonyOS Ecosystem (Wuhan) Innovation Center

The importance and visibility of the HarmonyOS Ecosystem (Wuhan) Innovation Center in the Optics Valley have been continuously increasing. Since its unveiling in July last year and commissioning in December, within just 10 months, the center has risen to become the largest, most comprehensive, and technologically strongest HarmonyOS innovation center in the country. Over 300 technical testers and developers here have established a closed-loop service system for compatibility certification, talent training, and ecosystem promotion, continuously injecting innovative vitality into the global HarmonyOS ecosystem.

"Super Hub" Empowering Thousands of Industries

Entering the smart exhibition hall of the center, scenes such as smart industry, smart healthcare, and smart finance come into view. The continuously enriching HarmonyOS innovations are gradually moving from Wuhan to the world.

Locally, companies such as FiberHome Communications' WiFi routers and Gaode Intelligent Sensing's thermal imaging cameras have completed HarmonyOS ecosystem adaptation. Users just need to bring a HarmonyOS-equipped phone close to the device, and the configuration interface will automatically pop up on the screen.

Outside the center, broader industrial cooperation has already taken shape, and the "super hub" of thousands of industries is beginning to show its potential. In the industrial sector, Changwei Group has built the "Hongzhi Operating System" based on the HarmonyOS ecosystem, achieving a 20% improvement in equipment management efficiency and a 6% increase in pass rate. In infrastructure, the smart streetlight project on Guanggu Science Island uses the HarmonyOS to achieve automatic dimming and environmental monitoring functions. On the software side,金山办公 has established its HarmonyOS WPS R&D center in Guanggu, continuously iterating globally.

Xinghan Laboratory of the HarmonyOS Ecosystem (Wuhan) Innovation Center

This strong development momentum is closely related to the "Four Stars" platform system established by the HarmonyOS Ecosystem (Wuhan) Innovation Center.

As the first nationwide HarmonyOS terminal peripheral test certification platform, the Xinghan Laboratory within the center has currently provided HarmonyOS compatibility certification services to over 40 enterprises and more than 800 terminal peripheral products; the Xingchen Laboratory focuses on HarmonyOS unified interconnection technology and open-source HarmonyOS system research, promoting the standardization of cross-terminal protocols; the Xingyun R&D Center has formed an expert team, dedicated to filling the gap in HarmonyOS PC productivity tools; and the Xingguang Academy has collaborated with local universities in Hubei and Wuhan, having already trained over 1,000 HarmonyOS specialists.

Building a Thousand-Billion-Yuan HarmonyOS Ecosystem Development Hub in Wuhan

"Ecological construction is difficult, but it determines the success or failure of an operating system," said Du Jinbiao. The strong support from Wuhan has enabled the HarmonyOS ecosystem to take root rapidly here.

Wuhan is a city known for its software industry, with 40,000 software companies and over 400,000 employees, 90% of whom actively use open-source technologies and participate in R&D, possessing a good atmosphere for open-source innovation and a complete industrial chain.

In the Xinghan laboratory, staff are conducting system temperature rise tests.

Currently, Wuhan has issued the country's first city-level open-source HarmonyOS construction implementation plan, forming the Wuhan Open Source Innovation Alliance and four municipal open-source innovation centers. Through key tasks such as scenario openness, benchmark creation, native compatibility, and soft-hard collaboration, it promotes the deep integration of open-source HarmonyOS with manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare sectors. In March this year, the Donghu High-tech Development Zone also issued a special support policy, explicitly proposing to support the development and ecosystem building of open-source applications such as HarmonyOS.

According to previous plans, Wuhan aims to implement 100 ecological benchmark scenarios by 2027, complete the development of 200 applications, cultivate 4 industry operating systems, gather 100,000 developers, accelerate the formation of a thousand-billion-yuan HarmonyOS ecological industry locally, and build a national-level HarmonyOS technology source area.
