Reference News, November 5 report - According to TASS, on November 4, Serbian President Vučić stated that he would not recognize Kosovo's independence or impose sanctions on Russia in order to accelerate the process of European integration.
The report said that after the EU enlargement summit, Vučić said: "We have a choice: we can impose sanctions on Russia tomorrow and recognize Kosovo's independence tomorrow, then we can join the EU as soon as we want."
He emphasized that these steps are unacceptable for Belgrade. He said, "I don't think we must recognize Kosovo's independence. I also don't think we must impose sanctions on Russia."
According to Vučić, the pressure on Serbia is purely political.
He emphasized, "Do you think we must do this? I don't think so. No problem, just do it, and we can join the EU within a year. That's naked geopolitics, nothing else."
Vučić said that Serbia independently decides its policies. He said, "Until today, this has always been our choice, not theirs."
After the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Vučić said that although Serbia supports Ukraine's territorial integrity, it will not impose sanctions on Russia. He pointed out that Serbia considers Russia and Ukraine as brother countries, regrets what is happening in Eastern Europe, and is ready to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine. (Translated by Lu Di)
