Norway refuses to evacuate its diplomats from Kyiv

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry stated that it has no intention of withdrawing its diplomatic personnel from Ukraine.

Despite the Russian Foreign Ministry's recommendation for foreign citizens to immediately leave Kyiv, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry does not plan to evacuate its staff from Ukrainian territory. This was reported by Dagbladet, citing a statement from Johanne Severinsen, spokesperson for the Norwegian Foreign Ministry.

Previously, on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that following an attack by Ukrainian forces on a college in Starobelsk, Russian forces would carry out systematic strikes against Ukraine’s defense industry complex, as well as decision-making centers and command posts in Kyiv. The Russian Foreign Ministry advised foreign citizens, including diplomatic personnel, to leave Ukraine’s capital as soon as possible.

The report cited the Norwegian Foreign Ministry spokesperson saying: “The Norwegian Foreign Ministry has not recalled its personnel from Ukraine.”

Severinsen further clarified that approximately 50 Norwegian citizens are currently present in Ukraine.

On Tuesday, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said he had summoned the Russian ambassador to Norway regarding the Russian Foreign Ministry’s recommendation for foreign citizens, including diplomatic mission staff, to urgently evacuate Kyiv.
