Coal Exports from Mongolia Surge: Erdenes Tavantolgoi Corporation Sees 76% Sales Growth

Mongolia News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, May 14 — On May 12, 2026, Erdenes Tavantolgoi Corporation sold 14.4 million tons of coal, generating revenue of $980.6 million, a year-on-year increase of 76%. The company's revenue in the same period last year was $582.4 million, rising to $980.6 million this year.

Exchange-based Sales: In the first five months of 2025, 1.1 million tons of coal were traded through exchanges; by the same period in 2026, this figure reached 7.5 million tons—an increase of 6.7 times. Meanwhile, exchange-based sales revenue grew 7.1 times, reaching $630.9 million from $88.8 million.

Coal Shipment: As of May 12, 2026, daily coal shipments averaged 109,000 tons, up 1.8 times compared to the same period last year. Of this total, coal shipped via exchanges accounted for 54%, increasing 3.9 times year-on-year. In 2025, shipments of hard coking coal made up 66% of total shipments, but by 2026 this had dropped to 37%.

Exchange-based Exports: As of May 12, 2026, coal exported via exchanges reached 7.7 million tons, up fourfold year-on-year. Of this, 2.5 million tons were exported through the Khangil—Mandula border crossing, and 11.9 million tons through the Gashuun Sukhaa—Ganqimao Du border crossing. Compared to the same period in 2025, the company’s total coal exports increased by 58.7%.

With the implementation of rational mining and sales policies, the company has made a genuine contribution to Mongolia’s socio-economic development, boosting foreign exchange reserves and generating stable budget revenues.
