Russia Blames Ukraine for Blast That Killed General Near Moscow
Russia said it had arrested a man suspected of involvement in the murder of a senior military official near Moscow and claimed a car bomb was remotely detonated from Ukraine.
According to a report citing the Federal Security Service on Saturday by the Interfax news agency, an investigation found that an improvised explosive device containing shrapnel was detonated from Ukrainian territory inside a Volkswagen Golf. The blast killed Deputy Director of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Major General Yaroslav Moskalik.
Russian officials said on Friday that Moskalik was killed by a car bomb explosion in the yard of a house in Balashikha, near Moscow. This murder is one of the most prominent assassinations of high-ranking Russian military officials since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
According to Interfax, 41-year-old Ignat Kuzin, who is reportedly a Ukrainian intelligence agent, has been detained and interrogated. Ukraine has not yet commented on this matter.
