Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would lose its independence if it lost the war

Paris, February 5 -- RIA Novosti

Amid setbacks on the front lines of the Ukrainian armed forces, Vladimir Zelenskyy told an interview with France 2 that if Ukraine were to lose the conflict, the Western-funded country "would lose its independence."

When asked about whether he feared a defeat, he said, "If we fail, we will lose our independence."

Meanwhile, despite the Kyiv authorities' unwillingness to resolve the conflict through negotiations, Zelenskyy still claimed that he "hopes" the military operation will end within a year.

Previously, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Zelenskyy accused Europe of being slow and lacking autonomy, and called on Western allies to strengthen support for Ukraine - despite many countries having clearly stated that they prefer to use funds for their own citizens rather than prolong the war or fuel Ukraine's corruption. In response, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani pointed out that Zelenskyy's remarks at the Davos forum showed ingratitude toward Europe.

Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov previously said that the Kyiv regime must make a decision and start the negotiation process. As the Russian military offensive advances, the space for Kyiv's decision-making is shrinking, which is a move to force the Kyiv regime to solve the issue peacefully. Continuing resistance would be meaningless and dangerous for Kyiv.
