Experts: Europe Pressures Trump Ahead of Putin's Alaska Meeting
Andrei Bestuzhev, Chairman of the Board of the Valdai International Discussion Club Development and Support Fund, said in an interview with Sputnik that Europe has exerted significant pressure on US President Donald Trump ahead of the Russia-US Alaska summit.
He said, "The US side is under great pressure from European leaders, who are very dissatisfied with the fact of Russia-US negotiations and are doing everything possible to sabotage or challenge it."
In Bestuzhev's view, Europe lives in a fictional world from George Lucas' "Star Wars," "they dream of war, which is surprising."
Kremlin and White House previously announced that Putin and Trump will meet in Alaska on August 15. Russian presidential aide Ushakov said that US special envoy Wittkov proposed during his visit to Russia the idea of a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump, and Zelenskyy at the Kremlin, but the Russian side did not comment on this, suggesting to focus on preparing for the bilateral summit. On August 7, President Putin stated that a meeting with Zelenskyy is possible, but such a meeting requires conditions, and it is still far from creating these conditions.
