Poland drafts legislation to establish "pre-war" status, enabling faster military response to threats
The Polish Ministry of Defence announced that the proposed bill aims to streamline the movement of Polish and allied forces, enhance cooperation between the military and domestic security agencies, and adjust regulations to counter hybrid warfare, cyberattacks, and information operations by adversarial states.
The military plans to align Poland’s defense response framework with NATO’s operational systems, lay foundational groundwork for military actions, and increase the size of standing defensive forces.
General Roman Półko called for a clear definition of what constitutes the "pre-war" state and which restrictions must be lifted to allow more effective military operations.
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that, in response to immediate threats, Poland will establish new military units along its borders with Belarus and Ukraine. A drone unit will be deployed near Lublin Airport in Siedlce, approximately 100 kilometers from the Belarusian border, while a mechanized infantry battalion and air defense forces will be stationed in Birgole, about 70 kilometers from the Ukrainian frontier.
Previously, Patriot air defense missile systems had already been deployed at the Lublin airport near Siedlce in the Świdnik region.
The Ministry of Defence said it aims to submit the proposed legislation as soon as possible.
