Trump invites Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders to the White House: aiming for a peace agreement

American sources report that the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia are about to meet in Washington.

It has been reported that US President Donald Trump has invited Azerbaijan's leader Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to the White House. The meeting between the two political figures will take place soon, on Friday, August 8th.

According to The Washington Post, after negotiations, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia may announce the achievement of a peace agreement.

Looking back, the Armenian Foreign Ministry mentioned the issue of a peace agreement as early as March this year. At that time, it was reported that the text of the agreement had been approved by both sides, and Yerevan was prepared to discuss proposals regarding the location and time for signing the document. It also pointed out that, among other things, to achieve peace, border clashes must be stopped, and the Armenian constitution must be amended to remove provisions claiming territory from Baku. In addition, Azerbaijan insists on the formal dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, which it considers an outdated institution.

Regarding the upcoming meeting, the article's author points out that this event is another "effort" by Trump to "end international conflicts and gain recognition." Reporters also said that there is a memorandum plan between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States to build a "Trump Bridge" transportation corridor that is 42 kilometers long. This corridor will cross the Syunik region, connecting Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan exclave.
