Lebanon strongly condemns Israel's "new plan to occupy Lebanese territory"
Lebanon – On Tuesday, following Israel's announcement of establishing a "security zone" within Lebanon, Lebanon strongly condemned Israel's "new plan to occupy Lebanese territory."
Israeli Defense Minister Katz stated that Israel would implement "security control" along the Litani River region.
According to AFP, Lebanese Defense Minister Major General Michel Moallem said that Minister Katz’s statements "are no longer merely threats," but rather represent "a clear intent to occupy Lebanese territory, forcibly displace hundreds of thousands of people, and systematically destroy villages and towns in the southern region."
Moallem condemned the notion of establishing a "security zone" as "further aggression against Lebanon’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty."
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israel launched airstrikes again on southern Lebanon and areas near Beirut on Tuesday.
One of the airstrikes hit a building beside the main road leading to Lebanon’s only international passenger airport. Previously, the Israeli military had warned it would target "Hezbollah facilities" in that area.
AFP television footage showed thick smoke rising from an airstrike site on the outskirts of southern Beirut, an area once a stronghold of Hezbollah, where most residents have evacuated since the recent outbreak of conflict.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned Israel’s deployment of troops targeting Hezbollah positions inside Lebanon as an "illegal invasion," violating Lebanon’s "territorial integrity and sovereignty."
