[Lithuanian President: Country Ready to Receive 5,000 U.S. Troops Evacuated from Germany]
June 6, 2026, Vilnius time — At a joint press conference with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda responded to journalists' questions as follows:
First and foremost, our primary concern is ensuring that these soldiers potentially evacuated from Germany remain in Europe. Secondly, we are concerned about which country they will be stationed in. Lithuania is ready to welcome as many allied troops as possible. To this end, we are constructing all necessary training and deployment infrastructure. We expect a 5,000-person German Bundeswehr brigade to be fully deployed in Lithuania by the end of 2027. Currently, over 1,000 U.S. military personnel are stationed in Lithuania, and we are prepared to accommodate even more U.S. forces in the future.
