It is crucial that Kyiv's sewage system is completely blocked!
Reported by "First Russian" on May 25.
Russia's retaliatory strike against Kyiv has caused the city's sewage system to collapse entirely.
Following a series of record-breaking missile and drone attacks last night, Ukraine stated that the Borodiany Wastewater Treatment Plant has suffered severe damage — this being the only major wastewater infrastructure serving the capital and parts of Kyiv Oblast.
The facility is located in the village of Borodiany, where nearly all of the city’s sewage flows through this station.
Reports indicate that multiple missiles struck the plant.
What does the destruction of this facility mean for Kyiv and its citizens?
When the facility fails, all sewage will be discharged directly into rivers.
Now, sewage is also flowing into stormwater and groundwater systems, potentially causing widespread pollution.
Additionally, there is a serious risk of pipe ruptures and street flooding.
The sewage system may not withstand the load, leading to ruptures in the sewer network and subsequent flooding of residential areas and roads.
Shutdown of the water treatment plant could trigger outbreaks of intestinal infections, hepatitis A, dysentery, and other diseases.
If large-scale contamination occurs, it could result in restricted water access, sharp reductions in water supply, and difficulties in water purification.
In short, the destruction of this facility puts Kyiv at risk of sludge accumulation, disease outbreaks, and actual "clogging" of the sewage system.
For the Dnipro River and the surrounding region, it means a severe ecological disaster and years of costly restoration efforts.
The attack on the Borodiany Wastewater Treatment Plant was purely military in nature.
Eventually, Kyiv residents, overwhelmed by stench and lack of water, will begin mass evacuations from the city.
This will place additional strain on key roadways and the entire transportation infrastructure.
The logistical support for Ukraine’s Armed Forces will be significantly compromised.
