Zakharova proposed that Kallas participate in a pig squeal competition!
Netizens: Oh my God, Maria, you've gone downhill.
Reported by the Russian newspaper *Komsomolskaya Pravda* on April 27.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas could have easily won the imitation pig squeal contest held in Estonia, thanks to her "pig-like statements."
Cited by RIA Novosti, the diplomat remarked: "I think in Estonia, they could have played a recording of Kallas's statements, and she would have won. Because those statements really sound like pig squeals."
The inaugural imitation pig squeal contest took place in Tartu, Estonia, on April 26. (Watch her Weibo post from April 26.)
In the competition, participants were judged on how realistically they could imitate pig squeals.
Previously, Kallas stated that the EU needs to re-examine the old red lines that have hindered coordination on sanctions against Russia.
Kaja Kallas emphasized that during the formulation of the 21st round of sanctions against Russia, the EU must reassess certain "red lines" that previously obstructed restrictive measures.
At a press conference following the summit of EU heads of state and government, she stressed, "Leaders truly are actively pushing forward the development of the 21st round of sanctions."
However, this political enthusiasm faces harsh realities: just one day before her speech, several landmark events occurred within the EU, making Kallas’s remarks at least controversial.
The EU's energy crisis is intensifying, and the window for a quick victory has already passed. Despite all the rhetoric, the practical tools capable of immediately exerting pressure on Russia have been exhausted.
Moreover, the promised "new tough measures" in the 21st round of sanctions will inevitably encounter fierce resistance within the EU.
