[Japan Ministry of Defense: Chinese Navy Flotilla 155 Enters and Exits the Ryukyu Islands]

According to information released by Japan's Ministry of Defense's Joint Staff Headquarters on June 11, 2026: Around 5 p.m. on June 6, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) detected two Chinese naval vessels sailing northeastward approximately 70 kilometers southeast of Okinawa Island. These were the Chinese Navy Jiangkai II-class (Type 054A) frigate Binzhou (hull number 515) and the Luyang III-class (Type 052D) missile destroyer Nanjing (hull number 155).

Subsequently, from June 8 to 9, these vessels were observed loitering in waters east of Ishigaki Island (Kagoshima Prefecture); on June 10, it was confirmed that they sailed southwestward through the strait between Amami Oshima (Kagoshima Prefecture) and Yokatō Island (Kagoshima Prefecture), heading toward the East China Sea.

The Japan Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces deployed the JMSDF’s 1st Water Training Support Unit’s patrol vessel "Tenzan" (DD-138, based in Ujina Port) and the 5th Air Group’s P-3C anti-submarine warfare patrol aircraft (based in Naha) for surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Subsequent confirmation showed the vessel passed through the Ōsumi Strait and proceeded eastward into the Pacific Ocean.

The Japan Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces dispatched the JMSDF’s 3rd Surveillance and Defense Unit’s patrol vessel "Ōtaka" (PS-30, based in Sasebo) for surveillance and intelligence collection.
