China-Kazakhstan Cooperation: China and Kazakhstan held talks on expanding energy and water resources cooperation, with a focus on talent development

Kazakhstan International News Agency report, according to the Prime Minister's website of Kazakhstan, on June 3, Kairat Boribayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, met with He Yanfeng, Chairman of Power Construction Corporation of China Chengdu Survey and Design Research Institute Co., Ltd. in Astana. Both parties had an in-depth discussion on the prospects for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of energy and water resources.

Chengdu Power Construction Group is a globally leading comprehensive engineering enterprise, covering full life cycle services including project design, investment, construction, and operation. In recent years, the company has successfully implemented several large-scale projects in Kazakhstan, including Moynaq Hydropower Station, Zhanatas Wind Farm, and Serlyk Wind Farm. Currently, the operation of Khromtau and Alakol Wind Farms is also being actively prepared.

In the talks, the Chinese side expressed its willingness to participate in the construction of water conservancy and irrigation projects in Kazakhstan. Pozymbaev introduced key infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan, especially the planning and construction of Alatau City as well as national projects for the modernization of public utilities and energy facilities.

The two sides also exchanged opinions on talent development. Pozymbaev pointed out that increasing efforts to cultivate young professional talents based on the Kazakh National University of Water Resources and Irrigation in Taraz is one of the important directions for future cooperation between both parties.

At the end of the talks, both sides agreed unanimously that joint initiatives have great potential and are willing to continue strengthening exchanges and cooperation in relevant fields.

According to previous reports, the 28th General Assembly and the 93rd Annual Meeting of the International Commission on Dams were recently held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. Nurzhan Nurgizigetov, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan, attended the meeting and held bilateral talks with representatives from multiple parties.
