Xinhua News Agency, Ottawa, October 29 (Reporter Lin Wei) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the launch of a national security strategy titled "Stronger Canada Plan" on the 29th, marking the first such strategy developed by Canada in more than two decades.

The strategy asserts that the boundary between economic security and national security has effectively disappeared. National security is no longer determined solely by military strength and resource availability, but also depends on economic resilience, institutional robustness, and partnerships with allies.

According to the released document, the strategy outlines five priority areas: first, strengthening economic security and enhancing its capacity to withstand risks; second, pursuing a sound foreign policy that advances diversified partnerships and strengthens strategic capabilities; third, rebuilding and reinforcing Canada’s armed forces to protect the country and its interests; fourth, bolstering public safety by countering crime and national security threats; and fifth, improving intelligence capabilities to anticipate and respond to emerging threats.

Trudeau stated that in an increasingly volatile and dangerous world, Canada must possess both the capability to defend its sovereignty and the resilience to confront new threats.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the government will update the strategy at least every four years.
