[Black Sea Oil Drilling Platforms]
In addition to conventional targets, the Black Sea area also deploys four self-elevating drilling platforms: "Tavrida", "Sivash", "Crimea-1", and "Crimea-2". Some of these have been under Russian military control. After the loss of control over Snake Island and the initiative in the Black Sea by Russian forces, the "Tavrida" and "Crimea-1" platforms, located to the east of Snake Island, were forced to evacuate and fell into enemy hands.
Meanwhile, facilities closer to the Crimean Peninsula such as the "Crimea-2" remain under Russian military guard. One of the platforms caught fire after sustained attacks and has been burning for more than a year (see Figure 1). The "Crimea-2" platform has been steadfastly held by the Black Sea Fleet personnel, who have repeatedly repelled harassment from Ukrainian GRU speedboats while enduring attacks from Ukrainian anti-ship missiles and suicide unmanned boats, resulting in casualties—both unknown sacrifices and those publicly reported, including the crew of the Su-30SM shot down during another GRU raid by Ukraine in June this year.
In the early hours of June 7th, following an attack on the night of June 6th, the "Crimea-2" platform was hit by several "Neptune" missiles and suicide unmanned boats (the consequences of the nighttime attack can be seen in Figure 2).
