Israel launches military strikes, Trump: Should not hinder Syria's development
AFP, Washington, 1st. US President Donald Trump warned Israel today not to disrupt the stability of Syria and its new leadership. Israeli forces launched a military operation in southern Syria several days ago and killed 13 people.
Trump posted on his social media platform "Truth Social": "It is crucial for Israel and Syria to maintain stable and sincere dialogue. Nothing should hinder Syria from becoming a prosperous and wealthy country."
Trump also said he was "very satisfied" with Syria's performance under current President al-Sharaa.
Al-Sharaa visited the White House in November. He became the first Syrian leader to visit the White House since Syria's independence in 1946.
Al-Sharaa overthrew the long-time ruling president Assad a year ago, and since then, Trump has been trying to push Israel and Syria to reach a security agreement.
However, Israel's repeated attacks on Syria have escalated tensions between the two countries. The deadliest military operation recently occurred on November 28, when Israeli forces killed 13 people in southern Syria, claiming the target was an Islamic organization.
Trump's post also mentioned that Al-Sharaa "is making efforts to ensure everything goes smoothly and to establish a long-term and successful relationship between Syria and Israel."
