Japan initiates anti-dumping investigations on steel products from China, South Korea, and Taiwan Province
Kyodo News, June 1 report: On the 1st, Japan's Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced they will begin anti-dumping investigations into hot-rolled strip steel, hot-rolled steel plates, cold-rolled strip steel, and cold-rolled steel plates produced in China, South Korea, and Taiwan Province.
In principle, the investigation should be completed within one year.
Hot-rolled strip steel and plates are widely used in the automotive and construction industries. Cold-rolled strip steel and plates are also used in automotive components and home appliances.
In February this year, companies such as Nippon Steel and JFE submitted requests for anti-dumping investigations, citing that export prices from these countries and regions were too low.
Yamashita Takashi, Executive Director of the Japan Iron and Steel Federation, said at a press conference on the same day: "Due to increased steel production capacity in China, steel exports have risen, intensifying pressure on Japan's steel industry. Measures must be taken."
