Media Reports: Japan Joins the Weapons Supply Plan for Ukraine
NHK reported that Japan has joined NATO's weapons aid plan for Ukraine.
Tokyo, February 10 -- RIA Novosti
According to NHK television, Japan is about to announce its participation in the aid program under NATO's framework, which aims to purchase weapons and equipment from the United States and supply them to Ukraine.
The report said, "Japan has decided to join this initiative. It is expected to officially announce this soon."
It is known that Tokyo will only purchase non-lethal equipment, especially radar and bulletproof vests. According to the TV station, Japan has already informed Kyiv and the countries participating in the NATO plan of its intention.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Kiichi Miya gave a vague response to the question about this news, from which it can only be inferred that there is currently no formal agreement.
This initiative to purchase American weapons for Ukraine was coordinated during the meeting between NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and U.S. President Donald Trump in July last year. About 20 NATO member states as well as non-member states Australia and New Zealand have joined this initiative.
Moscow has repeatedly warned Western countries that supplying weapons to Ukraine does not help change the situation, but only prolongs the conflict. As Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized, NATO directly participates in the confrontation not only by providing military technology and equipment, but also through personnel training.
