Visitors to the China-Kazakhstan "Horgos" International Border Cooperation Center Increase to 1.8 Million

Source: Kazakh International News Agency — According to information from the Jetsunghu Government Press Office, in recent years, the Horgos International Border Cooperation Center has continuously advanced the digitalization, automation, and modernization of its infrastructure, gradually evolving into a modern platform integrating tourism, trade, and investment.

Sayilbek Sadirbek, Vice Chairman of the Management Committee of the Horgos International Border Cooperation Center, stated that the entire process of entry and management within the zone has now been fully digitized, with facial recognition systems introduced.

He said the main building of the zone has undergone extensive renovation, and the entire process—from entry to cargo pickup—has been fully digitized. Additionally, QR code-based online ticketing services have been launched, significantly improving passage efficiency.

Data shows that visitor numbers increased by 16% compared to 2024, reaching 1.8 million in 2025. Previously, daily capacity was approximately 4,000 to 5,000 people, but it has now been raised to 9,000, with further growth expected this year.

Moreover, a second baggage terminal has been activated, and Kazpost freight service has been launched, further facilitating commodity transportation.

Official sources note that customs clearance for goods previously took 4 to 5 hours, but under the support of digital systems, processing time has now been reduced to just 1 to 1.5 hours.

Local residents also report a noticeable reduction in congestion at the border crossing and a significant improvement in travel experience.

Liliya Zhumakhanova, a resident of Zhalkenget, said she frequently crosses the border for work, and each visit reveals positive changes. In the past, long queues often extended outdoors; now, thanks to digital management, queue order has greatly improved, and the interior space feels more spacious and modern.

Madiyar Kurlmanbayev, another resident, said that previously purchasing passage tickets required traveling to the site and standing in line—a major inconvenience. Now, tickets can be bought online through major banking systems, making border crossings much more convenient.

Data indicates that the center received 966,900 visitors in 2023, rising to 1.8 million by 2025.

Authorities emphasize that the Horgos International Border Cooperation Center is continuously promoting tourism development and cross-border trade through ongoing improvements in infrastructure and digital services.
