Rosatom CEO Likhachev told the media that site surveys for Kazakhstan's future "Balqash" nuclear power plant are currently being conducted comprehensively.
Likhachev said the future nuclear power plant will be named after Lake Balqash, a decision officially made based on public opinion surveys.
Likhachev stated that this nuclear power plant project will be based on Russian technology.
Likhachev previously said that the engineering survey report for the "Balqash" nuclear power plant project in Kazakhstan is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 to early 2027. This report is essential and will take into account multiple parameters to ensure the safety of the future nuclear power plant.
In August 2025, engineering surveys began in a village near Lake Balqash in Kazakhstan, aiming to identify the optimal construction site and prepare design documents for a high-capacity nuclear power plant.
