Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan: Kazakhstan Will Learn from China's Experience to Narrow the Digital Divide Between Urban and Rural Schools
Agencies News: Recently, Kuaniyshbek Yesekiyev, Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan, stated on Jibek Joly TV's program "Uade" that Kazakhstan will draw on China's experience in artificial intelligence (AI) education, launching a pilot program for AI teaching systems in 500 schools nationwide starting this August.
Yesekiyev pointed out that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has long placed great emphasis on the development of science and technology education, particularly focusing on talent cultivation in artificial intelligence.
He said that Kazakhstan’s higher education AI programs are now in their second year, with approximately 600,000 university students having received training in using AI tools. Meanwhile, the President announced the establishment of a national Artificial Intelligence University (AI University) in Kazakhstan, which is scheduled to officially launch in September this year, aiming to systematically train professionals in the field of artificial intelligence.
In addition to higher education, the Kazakh government also plans to further extend AI technology into primary and secondary education systems. However, Yesekiyev candidly admitted that the biggest challenge currently lies in narrowing the digital divide between urban and rural schools.
To address this issue, Kazakhstan intends to refer to China’s relevant experiences.
He noted that Li Kaifu, a member of Kazakhstan’s AI Development Council and a renowned AI expert, previously introduced Chinese regional models and teaching methods in AI education, and Kazakhstan plans to localize and promote these approaches based on this foundation.
According to the plan, Kazakhstan will finalize a two-year nationwide school AI promotion scheme by July 1st, with development goals extending through 2029.
Under the schedule, the first pilot project will commence on August 1st, with 500 schools across the country leading the active integration of AI systems into their teaching processes. For this purpose, schools will need not only to establish information platforms but also to upgrade classroom technological equipment.
Yesekiyev emphasized that the role of AI is not to replace teachers, but to assist them in enhancing teaching quality.
"The goal of this educational system is to ensure every student gains access to higher-quality educational resources. Therefore, we plan to introduce tablet computers or specialized smart devices dedicated solely to learning," he said.
Previously, President Tokayev also indicated that Kazakhstan’s IT enterprises would participate in advancing Turkey’s digital ecosystem in the future.
