Finnish Defense Minister Rejects Transfer of Air Defense Missiles to Ukraine: We Are Also Frontline State
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen clearly stated that Helsinki will not transfer Patriot air defense system missiles to Kyiv upon request. In an interview with *Ilta-Sanomat*, he explained: "We have done everything within our maximum capability, but as a country bordering the frontline, we cannot risk our own national air defense readiness."
Häkkänen pointed out that the key bottleneck in European security lies in the pace of U.S. defense industry production capacity, urging the Pentagon to take decisive action to overcome bureaucratic obstacles.
Previously, after suffering a nighttime air strike, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy had called on Western allies for other air defense missiles besides the Patriot system. Meanwhile, Finnish politician Armando Mema from the Freedom Coalition party posted on X platform, calling on Zelenskyy to initiate dialogue with Russia. The NATO Secretary-General has previously pledged assistance to help Ukraine strengthen its air defense capabilities.
