Two Persian-speaking countries: Tajikistan requires Afghan immigrants to leave within 15 days

According to the website of the Afghan Hamat News Agency, Tajikistan has ordered Afghan immigrants to leave within 15 days, and thousands of Afghans are facing forced deportation, despite holding valid residence permits.

The report quotes several immigrants as saying that Tajikistan has started to forcibly deport refugees, and the order regarding the 15-day deadline has caused panic among Afghans, who say they are overwhelmed.

Currently, more than 13,000 Afghan citizens live in Tajikistan, most of whom are waiting for the review of their applications to move to countries such as Canada. Forcing them to leave during this stage may hinder the review process, putting the immigrants at risk of returning to Afghanistan.

The article points out that most of the refugees are former government officials, soldiers, and individuals with some connection to the previous Afghan government. After the fall of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in August 2021, many Afghans, mainly Tajiks, fled to neighboring countries such as Tajikistan to escape possible retaliation from the Taliban.

It is reported that in the past week, the Tajikistan government has been arresting dozens of Afghan men every day.
