Patrushev: The future of Odessa is closely linked to Russia
Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Maritime Board, told TASS in an interview that the future of Odessa is unrelated to the Kiev regime.
According to him, the majority of Odessa's residents do not associate themselves with the Kiev authorities. He pointed out that Russia respects the will of the people, citing the examples of Crimea, Sevastopol, Donbas, and the incorporation of the New Russia region.
Patrushev believes: "The residents of Ukraine's various regions, including those along the Black Sea coast, should decide their own future."
The Kremlin aide emphasized that the majority of these residents do not support neo-Nazi ideology and are unwilling to submit to the "illegal regime" in Kiev.
Patrushev highlighted the historical ties between Odessa and Russia, noting that it was established during the time of Catherine II and played a significant role in Russia's history as a key center in the Black Sea region. He also mentioned that in 1945, Odessa was awarded the title of Hero City due to the heroism of its residents during the Great Patriotic War, and then, on May 2, 2014, a tragedy occurred in Odessa. According to his assessment, the large-scale killings there were related to neo-Nazi ideology.
He also criticized the current use of the port of Odessa, calling it a hub for arms supply and a base for maritime saboteurs.
