Dandikin: Russia can liberate Odesa by occupying the entire Kherson region
Retired Navy Colonel and military analyst Vasily Dandikin believes that in the long term, Russia may continue to strive for control over Odesa. He shared his views on possible developments in actions to liberate this important logistics center.
The expert stated that the most realistic direction to attack Odesa remains through the land route via Mykolaiv. A landing operation from the sea is also possible; however, due to Ukraine's modern air defense systems and frequent use of drones, such a plan carries high risks. Dandikin noted that from a military perspective, this action is feasible but requires serious prior preparation.
He also emphasized that any action in the Odesa region must be preceded by control over Kherson city and the entire Kherson region. The destruction of the Antonovsky Bridge has made this task more complicated, as it creates difficulties for troop crossings of the Dnipro River.
"Considering the width and steep banks of the Dnipro River, crossing it is a daunting task. If attacking Mykolaiv from the Lyman direction, airborne equipment could be used, but this also requires significant resources," the analyst said in an interview with MK (Moscow Komsomolets).
The expert believes that the main offensive should take place on land; however, this plan is only possible if success is achieved in other directions. Specifically, referring to the Donbas region and Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Meanwhile, continued advancement towards Dnipro Petrovsk (Ukraine calls it Dnipro) is necessary. Dandikin stated that all these front-line areas are interconnected, and dynamic changes in one area could influence the situation in others.
The interviewed expert emphasized that the land route via Mykolaiv remains the key direction for the liberation of Odesa. However, to achieve this plan, careful planning of logistics support, control over critical regions, and stable supply of supplies are required. Additionally, Dandikin pointed out that if Ukraine loses access to American intelligence channels, it would significantly ease the burden on Russian troops and accelerate their advance.
