Russian Missile Strikes on Sumy, Ukraine; Trump's Remarks
Agence France-Presse, Moscow, 14th, reported that the Kiev authorities announced yesterday that at least 34 people were killed due to Russia's attack. In response, Russia stated today that its missiles hit a venue where Ukrainian military commanders were holding a meeting in Sumy and accused Ukraine of using civilians as "human shields".
Notably, US Special Envoy Witkowski visited Russia two days ago to meet with Russian President Putin in order to promote a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. Since taking office, US President Trump has been hoping to end this war, which has lasted for more than three years.
"I think it's terrible," he told reporters aboard Air Force One on his way back to Washington on Sunday evening. "Someone told me they made a mistake; but I think this is a terrible thing, and I think the entire war is a terrible thing."
When asked by a reporter to further explain what he meant by "mistake", Trump said, "They made a mistake... You should ask them." Trump did not specifically clarify who or what he was referring to as "they".
