Agence France-Presse, November 24: During an interview with German radio, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated that all issues related to Europe and NATO in the original peace plan had been removed during the talks between U.S. and Ukrainian representatives in Geneva, Switzerland. She said: "This is a decisive achievement we made yesterday."
Baerbock also emphasized that the EU and Ukraine must be involved in the drafting of any peace agreement. German Chancellor Scholz also stated in an interview with German media that no agreement should ever come at the expense of Ukraine's sovereignty.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian also said on the social platform "X" that the talks in Geneva were "constructive and effective."
Le Drian said: "We will continue to work to create conditions for a peace that respects Ukraine's sovereignty, safeguards European interests and security."
On November 23, negotiators from the EU, Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Ukraine, and the United States held various forms of meetings in Geneva to discuss the U.S.-proposed 28-point peace plan.
The U.S. and Ukraine jointly drafted a new version of the plan. U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said that the negotiations had made "significant progress." He also said that the unresolved issues "are not insurmountable," but did not reveal specific details of the controversial issues.
Previously, the Trump administration had drafted a new 28-point plan to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, including a mutual non-aggression pact between Russia, Ukraine, and Europe, and Ukraine's commitment not to join NATO.
