Number of Chinese tourists visiting Japan continues to decline for six consecutive months
According to a report by Japanese media Jiji Press: The Japan Tourism Agency announced on the 17th that foreign tourist arrivals in May decreased by 3.6% year-on-year to 3,559,900 people, marking the second consecutive month below last year's level.
The number of Chinese visitors has declined for six consecutive months, falling 60.4% compared to the same period last year. Tourist arrivals from Thailand also dropped by 8.6%.
Visitors from eight Middle Eastern countries, including Israel and Gulf states, increased by 67.8% to reach 39,000, setting a new monthly record. The delayed Islamic holidays and the resumption of certain flight routes contributed to this rise in tourism.
Korea, Taiwan region, and the United States all achieved their highest visitor numbers in May.
By country and region, South Korea led with 951,300 visitors, up 15.2%. Next was Taiwan region with 616,800 visitors, up 14.6%; the United States recorded 333,700 visitors, up 7.0%. Chinese tourists numbered 313,000.
