On August 5, according to Russia's Zvezda TV, during the execution of the joint military exercise "Sea Cooperation-2025" between China and Russia in the Sea of Japan, the Russian Navy and the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy rescue vessels conducted a rescue operation for a simulated damaged submarine crew that had sunk to the seabed.

During the exercise, the Russian Pacific Fleet's 636.3 type diesel-electric submarine "Volkhov" entered the designated area in Peter the Great Bay and sank to the seabed, simulating a submarine accident scenario. The Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy's "West Lake" rescue ship rushed to assist the Russian submarine crew. After searching and locating, the crew members established communication with the simulated distressed submarine crew.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy's rescue ship released the deep-submergence rescue boat "LR-7" which descended and successfully docked with the "Volkhov" submarine's rescue platform, simulating the process of transferring the submarine crew.

After completing the training exercises with the Chinese rescue ship and the Russian submarine, the Russian "Igor Belousov" rescue ship personnel exchanged roles with the Chinese diesel-electric submarine and performed the same rescue training process.

Russian rescue personnel shared their experience with their Chinese counterparts, demonstrated on-site modern medical equipment, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, and the operational procedures of the deep-submergence rescue boat "AS-40".
