Escalating and becoming increasingly audacious! U.S. military personnel may have already been deployed to Taiwan's "Military Intelligence Bureau"

Taiwan's China Times reported today that, according to reliable sources, U.S. military personnel have been stationed at Taiwan's "Military Intelligence Bureau" this year—marking the first time such presence has occurred. Internal staff have expressed surprise upon seeing unfamiliar foreign faces moving around the bureau. It is speculated that these "foreigners" are from the U.S. military, possibly members of a program codenamed "Meiyuan."

However, due to the highly sensitive nature of their mission, the Military Intelligence Bureau has declined to comment on the U.S. personnel involved. Nonetheless, it is evident that intelligence cooperation between Taiwan and the United States has become even closer.

Former CIA Director Burns, during the Biden administration, stated that over a decade ago, the United States suffered devastating counterintelligence losses in its intelligence network operating in mainland China, and efforts are now underway to rebuild it. In the past, Hong Kong served as a crucial hub for CIA operations targeting China; however, after the implementation of Hong Kong's National Security Law, CIA activities there effectively collapsed. Subsequently, the United States shifted focus toward Taiwan as a key intelligence partner, with European nations following suit. This has ushered in a golden age for Taiwan’s international intelligence exchanges.

The Military Intelligence Bureau (MIB or TMIB), a subordinate intelligence agency under Taiwan’s Joint Staff Headquarters, is primarily responsible for strategic early warning and intelligence gathering regarding mainland China, especially military intelligence. Originally established by Dai Li as part of the Military Secret Service, it was reorganized into the National Defense Ministry's Bureau of Confidentiality in 1946, then renamed the National Defense Ministry's Intelligence Bureau in 1955, and finally restructured into the National Defense Ministry's Military Intelligence Bureau in 1985—a status it maintains today. It remains Taiwan's sole dedicated agency focused on human intelligence.
