The first batch will have 800 young people enlisting, with about half volunteering and about 10% being female.
The government plans to train about 4,000 young people each year in the future.
Currently, 10 NATO countries have implemented the conscription system. In addition to Croatia, there are: Greece, Turkey, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.
