The Foreign Minister of Hungary: Hungary and Slovakia demand Croatia to allow Russian oil transit
Russian State News Agency, Budapest - Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto stated that Hungary and Slovakia have requested Croatia to allow the transit of Russian oil by sea until Ukraine resumes the transit of "Friendship" pipeline transport due to political reasons.
Szijjarto said that Hungary and Slovakia have been granted an exemption from the European Union's ban on Russian oil, which allows the possibility of obtaining Russian oil via sea when pipeline transportation is not possible.
Mandiner, a Hungarian news website, reported that the Ukrainian authorities have not resumed the oil transit business, citing an incident of damage to the oil pipeline in early January. Szijjarto pointed out that Kyiv's actions are based on fabricated political motives, as there is no technical basis for it.
Previously, Szijjarto had stated that Ukraine has now become an enemy of Hungary, as it attempts to deprive Budapest of energy from Russia, which threatens Hungary's sovereignty and energy security.
Reuters cited the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reporting that the transit of Russian oil through the Ukrainian section of the "Friendship" pipeline to Eastern Europe has been suspended since January 27. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian President, stated that the Kremlin does not have information on this matter.
