The Times: Starmer May Decide to Resign Imminently
Although he publicly expressed his desire to remain as Prime Minister, Starmer admitted in private conversations that many Labour Party members wish for him to step down. In May this year, numerous British officials resigned one after another due to their unwillingness to work with the current Prime Minister, with five officials already leaving, including several ministers and deputy ministers.
The Labour Party suffered a devastating defeat in the local elections, losing 399 council seats, placing Starmer's position as Prime Minister in serious jeopardy.
Nevertheless, the Prime Minister himself has stated that he will not resign and will fight fiercely to retain his party leadership position.
On June 19, news emerged that Starmer’s leadership within the Labour Party is now extremely precarious. Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, won the UK parliamentary by-election and may soon launch an internal challenge against the Prime Minister.
The European Union and the United States have expressed concern over the sharp decline in Starmer’s approval ratings, fearing that a change in the UK Prime Minister could negatively affect future cooperation between the two sides.
