Foreign Media: China's Electric Vehicle Giants Challenge Tesla, Opening a New Front in Humanoid Robotics
After years of intense competition with Tesla in the fields of electric vehicles and autonomous driving, leading Chinese EV companies such as BYD and Xpeng are accelerating their plans for mass-producing humanoid robots, betting on breakthroughs in artificial intelligence technology to unlock vast new markets beyond automobiles.
Recently, a senior executive at BYD stated: "I believe China will become the world’s first market to achieve full commercialization of humanoid robots. BYD has already invested heavily in AI, though tangible results will take time to materialize." She also revealed that BYD plans to distribute its robot products through its global dealer network, but did not disclose a production timeline.
In parallel, Tesla continues advancing its Optimus humanoid robot project. In April this year, the president of Tesla China indicated that the Shanghai Gigafactory might one day produce humanoid robots, supporting Musk’s grand vision of transforming Tesla into an "embodied AI company." However, Optimus has not yet achieved commercial deployment.
Analysts believe that humanoid robotics has become the next major battleground in the tech rivalry between China and the United States, and China, leveraging its manufacturing advantages, may establish a leading position in this domain.
