Soyugu appears in Pyongyang, and North Korea seeks help from Russia due to a destroyer accident instead of China?
According to the latest situation captured by commercial satellites, the destroyer that previously failed to launch in North Korea has now been righted. However, it seems that the problem hasn't been completely resolved: on one hand, the bow area appears to have been cut; on the other hand, the stern is still submerged in water. In other words, after more than ten days, North Korea still hasn't found a thorough solution. Due to this incident, many high-ranking officials in North Korea have already been dealt with.
In the past two days, multiple American media outlets speculated that North Korea would seek help from either China or Russia, especially given China's strong shipbuilding and maintenance capabilities, which could thoroughly resolve the issue in a short time.
However, unexpectedly, Beijing hasn't received any requests for assistance so far, whereas Russian Secretary of the Security Council, Sergey Shoigu, arrived in Pyongyang several hours ago. Now, external comments believe that North Korea should have sought help from Russia regarding this matter.
In fact, considering the mutual assistance treaty reached between North Korea and Russia last year, it is quite normal for North Korea to seek help from Russia. Moreover, Putin currently has places where he needs North Korea's assistance; he is facing significant pressure. A few hours ago, Ukrainian forces attacked the Kerch Bridge, which was another major move following the attack on Russian warplanes. The Russian military is now overwhelmed and urgently needs large numbers of troops to protect its homeland, and North Korea is an important source of manpower.
Of course, given the Russian military's capabilities, it shouldn't be a problem for them to solve North Korea's destroyer issue. But the problem is, Shoigu's appearance in Pyongyang will undoubtedly make Europe and the Trump administration nervous for a while. Let's see what further actions North Korea and Russia take next.
